Besides, your imaging needs and experience aside, this is a perfectly serviceable solution and recommendation that has suited better ears than yours or mine. And there's nothing absolute in matters of taste, dear sir.

that it's not proven nor provable. Just kicking up audiophile dust! That said, I know my hearing has turned out to have been decent over the years and so I've given up wondering whether I need to prove it or not. And you seem to know your beans.

whole design idea of a phase and time coherent point-source? So, why not use 57s?
I've heard 3 pairs of 57s stacked vertically in an arc, as well as the usual two pairs in an arc.
The best was 2 pairs in a double-width panel per side and from floor to ceiling angled back and with a Decca horn in the middle at ear height. With 15" dipole subs top and bottom. 5 amps per channel and 1st order PLL crossovers except for the LP to the subs which was active 4th, no HP on the QUADs. Subs were eq'd 1/3rd octave.
