In Reply to: RE: Help With Small/Short Mid Horn for EVDH1012A posted by Synthsayer on February 12, 2015 at 12:19:01
Those guys have really nice products.
Thanks again.
I would like to try just a very basic and easy to construct horn.
The DH1012 has a 1.3 opening which seems hard to find a horn for without using an adapter.
Wouldn't an adapter to 1 inch change the cuttoff frequency?
Thanks again.

A 10" deep horn will be smooth above about 680hz.The EV HR90 sounds very good, and with the DH1012 may be crossed at 500hz(24dB/oct). It's overall depth is about 14", but the mounting depth is less than 8".

To get the best performance out of any horn / driver combination you must have a seamless transition between the two. A good bet would be to get a horn with a 1.5" throat and make an adapter of proper size / taper to mate up with your exact driver exit. You could use plywood, mdf, delrin, aluminum et. and make it as perfect as possible as any imperfection in the throat can not corrected for. Good luck.
The $59 elliptical Faital Pro LTH142 horn might do what he wants.
He would need an adaptor made from a 1/8" aluminum plate to make the bolt circles line up.
Could be the combo!!
If the mids cqan gio to 1Khz I would consider this Faital Pro horn.
Thank you, DJK!!!
That graph looks great.
If the bolt holes don't line up, maybe I can drill new ones instead of an adapter plate???
Thanks again for the help.

Thanks again for the help!!!
I ordered the Faital Tractrix horns today.
Does anybody want the EV HR9040 horns I have?
I'll sell super cheap if you pay shipping?
They are so big, I don't know what to do with them.

You need to order the LTH-142 horns to fit your EV drivers.
The Faital Pro has a 1.4" entry with a four-bolt four-inch bolt circle.
The Electro-Voice DH1012 is 36mm, 1.4" exit with a 3.5" bolt circle.
You might be able to re-drill the horn without making a plate.
If you mount it in a sealed box you may want to add an extra mounting screw to the bottom edge, right in the center, and the same on the center of the top edge.
Thanks again for all of your help DJK and others..
The new horns were delivered and they sound amazing.
It was necessary to drill new holes to adapt the EV DH1012A driver, which turned into somewhat of an adventure, but, other than that I could not be happier.
The FaiTal Horn has a metal mounting plate; I was expecting the horn to be all ABS plastic. This made drilling the holes for the driver a little more of a challenge but it all worked out okay.
Thanks again.
You guys are the best!!!
