Kudos.
Curious as to crossover details?..
Cheers.

Thanks RC
As far as looks, they probably look better in pics than up close and personal. Besides the spice rack I made for Mom in wood shop these are pretty much the first things I ever built out of wood. They are solid but the fit and finish could have been better.

Just a technical correction.
Both the 18db per octave and the 6db per octave filters seem to follow the math but the 500Hz and the 1150Hz are the -3db points.
So at 1000Hz the woofer would be at -9db and at 2000Hz -15db.
Same for the high pass, 1150Hz would be the -3db point and 575Hz would be -21db and 287.5Hz would be -39db.

I had no idea that HEIL's could go that low!

ESS crossed them very low. 1000Hz and even 800Hz but they are not as sensitive down there.
I cross mine at 2500Hz, 6db per octave and never play my system very loud and I really like the sound of my original "Great" Heil AMT.
Crossed at 2500Hz I have to pad them down 5.2db to match my JBL 2118J that is rated at 97db.
BTW There is almost no inductance so the DC resistance is pretty much the impedance across the board. My Heils measure 3.7 ohms not 4 ohms.
Sebrof would do good to check that as well as the impedance curve of the Altec 416. A great driver IMO but the 5mH choke might not be best do to the self inductance of the speaker coil causing rising impedance.
I've tried and never liked Zobels but a crossover coil value chosen against the actual impedance at crossover would help some and maybe the 416 is 16 ohms at 500Hz? I don't know.

A friend of mine who was the one who sold me the 416 drivers and guided me in the build of those speakers got me headed down the road to biamping them. Getting that big coil out of the way of the Altecs has already proven a worthwhile step, and I am just in the proving the concept stage with an old Yamaha receiver as the preamp and bass amp, and 800Hz crossover points due to the limitations of the temporary active XO. I have an active XO on the way to me that will allow higher crossover points, and if that seems to work I'll get an appropriate amp for the Altecs. I have a 2A3 SET amp on the Heils.
Thanks for the feedback, y'all
