I'd love to see a really good 6" co-ax which does 500 to 18,000 Hz really well. Man, the speakers which could be designed around that!
:)

Haven't heard these -- yet. Perhaps worth a listen...
(made for HT, I guess... but,still...)
all the best,

There are plenty of 5-8" co-axials about:

There are others and the Eminence 8" lets you choose your own screw-on compression tweeter.
The hard bit is finding the best one.
If you prefer ready-made speakers try ME Geithain.

I did a crossover for and heard such a device last summer at Erich's DiySoundGroup "lab", something he had custom assembled from a Chinese manufacturer. It had a compression driver for the tweeter and one of the flattest 6" midwoofers I've seen, even without a crossover. Kind of a Tannoy type setup with the cone acting as horn for the tweeter. I don't know when/if he will be supplying them, nor what their cost would be -- Erich just said "not cheap". It did an amazing job of disappearing in the room, it took effort to convince yourself that the sound was coming from that box. He said I could get a set from him, I'll have to bug him about that again.
