Hi guys,
Hope you all had a great Christmas and wishing a happy new year!
After years of experimenting (mistakes) and reading about many other folks projects along with lots of listening in many different venues it seems to me that compression loading as much of the bass\midbass reagent as possible is a good design philosophy. Right now I only compression load the subwoofer and tweeter ranges. Although I havn't directly experimented with midbass horns, believe that may be the band that benefits most from compression and horn loading.
Searching areas close enough to drive to I found some EV PI 6615s which look to me to be a decent setup.
hat kind of horn design do you guys think this is, tapped, or scoop? Will it really go to 50hz without aide?
I know it needs a controller\crossover but I have tons of parts to try a passive.
Any other thoughts opinions experiences are welcome.
Thanks,
Scott

very interesting find this bass cabinet, difficult to really say without a drawing or a cabinet to physically look into. Would seem to be a tapped horn perhaps Tom could comment or knows? Best regards Moray James.

They refer to it as a "Subscoop" Being the box is 30" deep a 70" 1/4 wavelength would put it at 47hz. Not a bad idea for a "hit box".
I've not seen the innards, but by all appearances and EVs own description on their data sheet it's a variation of their MTL manifold cabs, making it technically a bandpass, not a tapped horn, with the driver reverse mounted to maximize the volume of the chamber it's firing into. One would have to see the plans for it to be sure, but with only 100dB sensitivity that indicates that it isn't a tapped horn, and Tom D. won't have any prior art issues.
Lame.
This is the 18" version, no real bass. It's a vented box with a horn-port.
No real HF up top, the DH1A has about 10dB more output in the top octave.
From a distance it could have been a good design concept.
Yeah, they look good don't they?
I like EV, just bought another pair of DH1A, and a pair of EV15B the other day.
djk, I don't wish to seem harsh or condemnatory, but I find your one word response, "lame" to be an example of very poor communication. What, pray
tell, are you proclaiming to be lame? Is it the EV 6615, Mr. Fitzmaurice's response, another response or something else altogether?
Enquiring minds want to know.
Do you think the box is ineffective or the name?
