I am not sure, but I THINK others have said EL-34 triode connected is not such a good sounding tube !!
Get a good design, it won't break !! Can you DIY build? If so, we could steer you into something up here.
All you need is an attenuator to drive most triode amps with high efficiency speakers. The preamp is mainly used as a switching - source device. Gain from the CD player will usually drive most amps used with high efficiency speakers!!
Only if you do phono do you need a preamp, with RIAA EQ.

George Anderson's Tubelab Simple SE is the easiest kit around and an excellent sounding 2 stage Triode wired Pentode design with a solid state Constant Current Source.
I've had El-34s, 6550s and now Gold Lion KT-88s in mine and the latter are the winners by far. The 5 Watts output will drive the OP out of his 12x15 room. The design also includes an optional volume control. Anyone can build this amp.

Any idea how much it costs to build this amp with all parts?
Around $400 with an Allied (Hammond) 6K7G power transformer, Transendar 5K Outputs and Triad choke. The board is just 35 bucks.

I am not sure exactly what they said, but I would agree that the 2A3,300B,or 45, sound better. The amps I mentioned seemed to have some favorable comments and can be had for a reasonable price. It's a matter of economics. Bottom line I would like some type of tube integrated. I really appreciate the input
Hi rws,
I can Recommend the Decware for EL34. Steve Deckart always voices his amps right. I was one $900 recently. The call it "Rachel" now.
I can't really recommend any off the shelf 300b, except the Dared they sell new on Agon would be a good starter amp. $850? Not too much to loose on either of these amps.

Big speakers and little amps blew my mind!
