I only saw one of those once, back in the mid-seventies. It was a sight to behold!
:)
I had a friend who built reflex cabinets for these and you could put a chair in the box.And to think the EV Patrician that used these was a corner horn(for extra efficiency) which then crossed over to a little 12" driver.

with cones this large you would absolutely need to rotate these woofers on a regular basis. Even in storage sag would be a concern and if they have been stored on their backs or fronts then they will have serious suspension sag issues. A concern worth checking out for those with 6K burning a hole in their pockets. Best regards Moray James.

Back in oh, the mid 80's, I was doing design work in the Pro Audio world (BBE was the company I worked for), and went with our marketing guy to call on a dealer in Lake San Marcos California. They were handling Emmy Lou's tour rig at the time, as I recall.
Way up on the wall behind their retail counter was one of these babies, hanging on a peg up high. I don't remember why they had it, but the sight of it sure stuck in my mind!
I know what you mean Adam. I saw an original HQD setup in a New Haven, CT audio shop many, many years ago now and while a 24" Hartley woofer is smaller than the 30" EV woofer, I too, have never forgotten the site of a pair of Hartley 24" " super-woofers " as they were called. To this day, some 40+ years later, I still long for a pair of them at times...

Ive heard them in a pair of EV patritians,,,Floppy muddy bass,,, NOT worth the money they are asking,,
I'd rather have more, smaller drivers, than any driver > 18" (and even 18" seems questionable to me).
There's a limit to this practice, but there's no reason for anything > 18" IMO.
Bass is supposed to sound big. 6.5" is not a woofer size.
Zako the Hartley 24" Super-Woofers were fast, and very tuneful. Now remember this was close to 35+ years ago and others may have caught up, but the Hartley's also have a very unique " magnetic suspension " that at the time returned in 1/1600 of a second. Now that's quick indeed! The magnetic suspension also provides additional restoring force to the cone during large-signal transients. It also has a free air resonant frequency of around 5Hz, allowing for extremely low box tunings and flat response.

6" is too small, 30" is too big.
There's just no pleasing you! LOL
:)
My friend who does stadium system installs says the 15" is just right. He prefers them to 18" or bigger.

Built a few of these going to drop it do to cost but still a great sounding bass system.
What size? 50"?
Fostex 31.5in woofer
I heard the patricians at a Detroit Audio Show in 1968 and was very impressed with the sound. The bass was tight and deep and the sound was nicely balanced from lows to highs. I was amazed at the bass they were getting out of the records. However, they only played classical selections. More recent contemporary music with overemphasized bass would probably not sound so good on the patricians.
... how and where we listen has a lot to do with how we perceive the sound of a component to be.
