Hello all,
I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I've searched everywhere to no avail. I recently acquired a mint condition EV 15TRXB, which I'm planning to install in a closet for an infinite baffle. To my eyes, it is a thing of beauty. Unfortunately, I have been unable to listen to it because of the fact that I'm afraid to hook it up without first sorting out the wiring. The Red and Black terminals I understand. But, there are three wires (red, yellow, and black) coming out of the speaker. From looking at some EV documents, it appears these wires go to an L-Pad (which, unfortunately, is not attached. I can pick up another L-Pad, but I have no idea which wire goes where. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated. I think this speaker would make a wonderful mono system. Thanks in advance.

Thank you! I happened upon that same pic a little while ago. I really appreciate your efforts. :-)

The schematic attached here should provide some ideas in lieu of an actual 15TRX owner stepping up. It shows the 15TRXB wired as a 3 way along with an added mid driver. Note the "RED/RED" area near the top which shows a "Jumper (remove)" note. The jumper is to be removed in the 3 way version but would be left in place with a stand alone 15TRX placing the capacitor pictured to the right of "RED/RED" in series with the L-Pad and then the tweeter plus. From this the black wire is the negative/common; the top red terminal is the plus for both drivers, and the lower red terminal is the tweeter plus if the jumper is in place. This leaves the yellow wire you mention as the likely candidate for the woofer plus. A check with a VOM should verify this with a reading of 8 or 16 Ohms or so between the black and yellow. You will not get a consistent reading between the red terminal near the capacitor (with the jumper removed) and the black as the capacitor will not pass the DC of the VOM, the capacitor will charge up and then provide a very high resistance reading (that is if the capacitor is still present and functional). Also note EV's use of T1 for the positive and T2 for the negative terminals which your speaker may have if you look closely. There was a post here awhile ago about disassembling a 12TRX, so use the forum search to find it if the above does'nt work out. It's not that hard.
Good Luck
Paul
The output of the crossover goes to the high side of the L-pad.
The wiper of the L-Pad goes to the high side of the tweeter and the low side of the L-Pad goes to ground.

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately, the crossover is inside the bell cap/magnet structure of the speaker, so I can't access it. All I have are the 3 wires (red, yellow, black)coming out from the back of the speaker. Is there a way, using a VOM, to determine which wires go where?
