Thanks for the tip on xover. I got to listen to it today at guitar center. Bass was overpowering everything else. The built quality is very good, but it is ill suited for my purpose.

if the bass was overpowering everything else perhaps you have a speaker with mid/hi issues? JBL do have a pretty good idea of how a speaker should sound so if it is all wrong check out the mids and hi's. So many times I read on forums that some one buys a speaker brings it home and a week or more later decides that the mid and or tweeter are dead. Worth checking. Best regards Moray James.

Thanks Moray. I am sure those JBL's sound great as portable reinforcement speakers, but I was thinking of using them for my home setup as I was looking for self powered horns to allow me to get rid of some of my boxes. The fact that the woofers run up to 2KHz could've contributed to what I heard.
