The only way to get the kind of tight bass you will need to blend with those speakers would be corner horns (like Klipschorn but without the mids and highs), a servo sub (like a pair of Velodynes) OR a good sealed sub.
The sealed sub is more difficult to find and will be much larger than a servo sub in general. A good example from the past would be the NHT sub 3. This made deep tight bass the natural way...a big box! The only Rel subs that are sealed are the Gibraltar series. I have a friend with two of those and they work very well with his Cabasse Baltic Evo "eyeball" speakers.
Of course corner horns are much larger. I would look into getting a used pair of Velodyne HGS12 or DD12 subs. I personally use a Mirage BPSS 210 servo sub with my Reference 3a monitors. I would recommend it but it is darn near impossible to find. In addition to being servo controlled, its 2 x 10 inch woofers are configured as bipoles and cancel all the backwaves out (you can set a glass of wine on it and not see any vibrations in the wine!).

Brad,Thanks for your input and the time you took to answer my post. The only " problem " I see with using a sealed design is the amount of power I'd require to be able to match my Sachiko/PS220-8 combo. Although I seldom listen at such volumes, they can cleanly play at 100dB+ and I can only imagine how much power a sealed sub would need to be able to play bass at volumes that would keep up with this when I'm playing music by Yes, Starcastle, Magnum, EL&P, Triumvirant etc.

most of those servo subs have sufficient power to play well in excess of 100db so i wouldn't worry too much about that.
Oh, ok, thanks for that info.
