In Reply to: RE: Which 2" horn for Pyle PDB 752 to get the best of the mid lows ? posted by beppe61 on July 14, 2014 at 22:54:30
if yo want to go low look at the EV DH1A as a minimum (3 inch diaphragm)and the four inch JBL units. what you have is only good to about 1KHz. a 1.4 - 1.5 inch exit will insure the best high end response. yes you will need a two foot to three foot square mouth to do 500 Hz and lower well. Hi and thanks a lot for the valuable reply
The 4" JBLs like the 375 are my dream ... a friend of mine have them
Unbelievable.
What impressed me is the response curve in the Pyle driver datasheet
Unfortunately the info about the horn used are missing ... how can be that i do not know.
And it goes quite low.
I will not need high level and i could use a eq to level the curve
My goal would be the 7-800 Hz reproduce by the Pyle driver.
The exit throat size is 2" on this driver.
Another weird solution is the diaphragm glued to the plastic cover.
I risked to ruin everything because i wanted to see the dome and everything came up together ... is this not weird ?
The price is also unbelievably low by the way.
It is my first experience with HE driver.
Thanks a lot again.
Kind regards,

http://www.audioheritage.org/html/history/jbl-pro/beginnings.htmnewer versions of JBL would be worth your consideration. They have a three inch diaphragm unit with Be diaphragm and a number of the four inch diaphragm units will accept aftermarket Be diaphragms also. As I mentioned the EV DH1A is a fine driver also. remember you get what you pay for and true quality and consistency do not come cheap so if it seems too good to be true than it probably is. the higher you want this driver to play the smaller the exit you want. spend you money of the real deal not knock off off shore stuff. I bought a pair of used DH1A for $260.00 delivered they are in excellent condition and they sound superb. With the extender nose cup removed the DH1A has a 1.4 inch exit otherwise 2" nominal (1.94"). Hi again and thank you very much indeed for the valuable advice
I will be "playing" with cheap things for a while to understand a little
Then i will go and hunt for something serious
The big JBL are amazing.
Speaking of 4" diaphragms i read a very interesting article on a pubblic demo of the Everest speakers by JBL
They have a 4" mid if i remember right.
At a certain point they put a blanket covering the tweeter
What was left was felt quite complete by the listeners
I am approching the mid 50 and my ears are now limited to 14-15 kHz ?
If i can get 50-15kHz i am happy ... but i would like to get them with very low distortion.
I am looking for the least distortion and possibly nice efficiency.
To end i am not ready for the serious stuff. I am still playing.
Thanks a lot again.
Kind regards,
bg

Hi and thanks for the info
I wonder if there is a technical reason
I like so much the replacement parts ... i like the domes in general as i like also the sferical woofers/mid
there is something fundamentally right and beautiful in these shapes.
Next time i will check better
Thanks a lot.
Kind regards,
bg
