Hi and thank you very much indeed for the very helpful advice
I would like to precise the actual situation
Convinced about the sanity of the goal to keep the distortion as low as possible i have initiated a zero distortion project, a little ambitious.
First requirement the max spl needed ... not more than 95dB at 3 meters
Still i have decided to buy a couple of HE compression drivers from Pyle because:
1) they were cheap
2) in the datasheet i saw a response usable from 500 to 15kHz. I have already emailed the Pyle tech support to understand which horn they have used to get this interesting response
3) because i think, maybe wrongly, that drivers designed to give high SPL with low distortion at home levels they will show almost no distortion to speak of ... am i right ? this is fundamental for my projectBeing completely ignorant on compression drivers i am afraid now that i should have selected another driver ... with a 2" throat instead this one has a 1.4" throat
Only driver with a 2" exit can go low in frequencies i have been told
I really prefer to make the midrange to reproduce the 500 to 1000 Hz range
I think that the distortion should be lower
Then i will look for a suitable woofer to use from 500 Hz downAs you can very well understand i am in a state of complete confusion
Only one think is sure ... in the end i will have a HE speakers
And a small power good sounding amp
I would prefer very much a single amp solution instead of multiamplification
It could be a mess i am afraid
Thanks a lot in advance for any kind and much appreciated suggestion
Kind regards,
bg

Are you using any measuring equipment (ie. distortion analysers, accelerometers, microphones, etc. so you can measure on/off-axis frequency response, sensitivity, impedance, phase, distortion, cabinet resonances, etc)?

Hi and none of them actually
But i have already an active xover that i could use during the testing phase
In this way at least the xover part is covered
Then i think i will need at least a SPL meter to equalize the two drivers, bass and mid-high sections i mean
I bought the drivers because they show a response from 500 to 15kHz in the datasheet ... very very impressive
I have emailed the company to understand in which conditions they have obtained this excellent performance
Of course the compression driver should be very very attenuated to keep it on line with the woofer
For the woofers i am thinking to some PA speaker 2nd hand with the woofers connected directly to new speaker terminals
Then i will put the compression drivers on the top of the woofers cabinets and voilå
But i have not yet received any answer from the company
Maybe they have got that kind of response at the throat without a horn ???
That would be fantastic ... i could go without a throat
Seriously ... i have evidences that is not much the flatness of the response that counts but the low distortion ... this is what gives an immensely effortless and hugely dinamic sound in the end
And compression drivers are the best at this, i guess
Thanks a lot.
Kind regards,
bg
