Hi Lance, Are you referring to selenium rectifiers?
Follow Ups:
Sorry, Yes.
If they sound good for your FC supply would they offer the same goodness for , say, a phono stage?
By the way, greatly enjoyed your report and your journey over the years.
A review written after listening for a year is a truly useful review. If there was to be something annoying it would have shown up by now!
If I wasn't a happy horn guy I would be contacting Mr. Rullitt.
Actually, the Aero-8 and almost all of Mr. Oleg Rullit's wide band drivers are intended for and developed in combination with Front Horns. I simply no longer have the room for nor the inclination or talent to construct viable Front Horns. I evaluated these drivers using Either Fully or Hybrid Open Baffle systems because This has also been a Twelve year study of mine and I have many such designs on hand.
I have NOT attempted using these VERY SIMPLE DC Power Supplies for anything but high voltage field coil drivers. In my opinion they are FAAAAR too simplistic a design for powering circuits requireing a very filter oriented quiet design. Such as your phono preamplifiers power supply.
Lance A.
for the moment thought my 100 to 500 hz horns use 12s and I suspect those would be lots of fun. One of these days ...
My question was not concerning your FC supply as much as wondering if substituting a selenium rectifier for silicon might make for a better sounding low voltage supply? I have read all of the downsides which do not sound all that scary.
Only have found one comment from someone who replaced the selenium rectifier in his DYNACO ST35 (or was it a 70?) and was not happy with the change. Amazing how important the filament circuit can be but those electrons are what is added to amplify the signal.
Thanks for your comments.
