Has anyone built speakers with these EV SP12Cs? They are from around 1981, ferrite magnet. The whizzer cone removed and dustcap put in. They function and sound very good. Electro-voice specs say 100db. I would cut off around 4000 hz. I am trying to build speakers to use with 3.5W SET amp. Open baffle? Manufacturer advises 5.5 cu ft ported box.
Thanks for any info.

The complete TS specs for the SP12C are in the link below, though the wizzer-ectomy may have changed things a bit. You can go with the EV recommended box, or roll your own with one of the online calculators.

EV drivers typically have a highish Qt, suitable for open baffle. I don't know what the Qt is of the C version. I would say give it a try. If EV recommends a 5.5ft3 box, I would think it also has a high Qt.

Friend in Utah has a pair that I seem to recall sounded pretty good in an open baffle.
These are easy to build and sound WAY better than they look. You'll get more and better bass than you should if you hold to the design, center the speaker exactly as called for irrespective of size and don't forget to include the little top shelf making it exactly the width of the driver.
Add a EV-T-35B with a Cap and resistor bridge for level control and you're done!

Hey, that looks good and lots of info. I have some thick particle board I could rough together first.
Thanks, seems do-able. That shelf on top could even support a small tweeter (If it didn't need to be enclosed).
Thanks
That's exactly where I sat my EV-T-35B!
