First check and see what the ideal cabinet/ volume is for your drivers ultimate build and then do what you mentioned, craigs list, ebay, etc.and see if you can find a cabinet with similar volume so your speakers will sound OK while you plan you build.

They all (likely suspects anyway) seem to have a port.
Is that port dimension calculated re all the drivers, or the woofer only ?
Hoping one 12" port config won't differ too much from another, for my temp use...
Blinx, your plan is good and it will work well enough. Maybe it will work better than that if you get close to the internal volume of the optimal tannoy cabinet. Port size can be manipulated on the fly with varying levels of success, and since this is a stop gap measure I wouldn't be too concerned.
Actually, this temporary cabinet could alter your direction in a final build.
