I have a pair of SpeakerLab K-Horns from 1978. I've been in contact with SpeakerLab and, unbelievably, they have no specifications or documentation on these speakers that they can give me.The midrange is a HD350B, 16 ohm, and the tweeter is a HT350, 8 ohm.
The woofer type is unknown to me, but it is original. Is there anyone who has any information on these drivers or can direct me to some ?
I've purchased a Rane AC23 and want to know the speaker specs to begin tinkering with the crossover. Also, if I need to replace either of the horns, can anyone suggest a particular model or source ?
Follow Ups:
I still have my catalog from 1976 that has some
specs in it. Is your woffer marked W1504 or W1508 ?I tried e-mailing them for info and didnt even
get a reply. Their old parts are sticks and stones
compared to todays stuff so a complete over haul
is in order. Please throw that crossover out.yuuk
I believe it is a 1508.Actually, I have a Dynaco PAS, 2 MK IIIs, and a Dynaco Stereo 70 which I've had in storage for 13 years. I used to have a pair of Mark VIs also, but I sold them years ago. I had the setup tri-amped using a Pioneer SF 700. It really rattled the house (literally), and the sound could make me shiver it was so good.
All the Dynaco stuff was Van Alstine modified, but doesn't work now. I suppose I could take it all back to him again and get an estimate on re-furbing everything.
Any possiblity you could forward any of the old info to me ? I could forward my fax number.
I wouldn't mind taking on this project for
my self. You will end up with a nice set-up.Their crossover for the K is 400 @ 6db
and 5000 @ 12db. Their crossovers were
really too basic with cheap parts.
Your new electronic crossover should
be nice. The tweeter horn is an Electro-voice.
I don't have the EV number but it is
the big brother to the T-350.
Bill, at Great Plains Audio, is very
helpful and should have
replacement diaphragms for them or
will rebuild them for you.
http://hometown.aol.com/whanuschak/The mid driver is probably EV also.
The woofers were built in their back yard
and you can do much better talking to
Klipsh K enthusiasts about replacement.here is how they spec'd them

I read your HOT thread below on the Rane xover.
I was thinking you might get away using an
additional passive network on your mid and
tweet to gain up to 360 degree phase shift
and provide the 'bulk' of the needed delay.
You then tweek the difference with the active
crossover in relation to the woofer.
It would take some carefull calculation by your
local math wiz but save tons of cash. Art
Jim -won't be much help - did once have a factory plywood pair of Speakerlab K-horns as unfinished kits - the K-400 style midhorn aluminum copy was good - driver appeared to be Atlas- there was no autoformer, T-35 appeared stock - woofer probably Eminence - this is about 25 years ago - they sounded fabulous on an old Audio Fidelity bagpipe and drum LP using a mod Dyna PAS and stock MKIII amps - I don't currently have a system with that kind of visceral impact.
I wish I could remember the xover - you should be safe running the Rane @ 450 & 4.5Khz

If my memory serves me correctly, the crossover was 500 and 5000, but your numbers are very close to that.
Sounds like I've got to do some experimenting and re-discovery.
Thanks for the response.
I talked to the guys that developed the Speakerlab Khorn in the early 80's. The driver they tried to use was completely unsuited for horn use. Their driver was a sealed box woofer. I would suggest trying the EVM15L, Altec 515B, or K-140 which at least give good horn performance. I would not use any of the Eminence 15's that Klipsch uses. Bruce
Hi Bruce,Any opinions on using a K-140 in a LaScala bass horn?
TIA,
-Steve
