I have had these speakers since 87 and last fall upgraded the crossovers and tweeters. Now I am going to replace all the gaskets and was thinking about putting spikes on them at the same time. They are sitting on carpet/pad/slab.
Has anyone had any experience with them or have thoughts they would share.
Regards,
Todd
Spikes could have a sonic advantage in making a speaker stationary on an uneven surface, eliminating some of the wasted energy dissipated in the wobble.
They also raise the speakers an inch or so, which could put the high frequency drivers closer to ear level.
I certainly could not notice any sonic difference that either of those attributes would carry, but they won't make the sound worse.
They might look better to you than a mat.
That is what I had in mind. They cannot compress the carpet and pad completely so they are a little unsteady. I was thinking that the spikes would go down to the slab and make them rock solid.
At this stage it is just an idea that I am kicking around, but if you could not hear a difference I might forgo this particular mod. It would make moving them a real PITA.
