CDs has always outsold music videos ... why? because CDs are portable ... you can play them in the car ... you can play them while jogging. However, the huge demand for Home Theater (thanks to Dolby Digital sound and to the gradual, albeit slow, adaptation of High Definition video displays) ... makes it easy to predict what the future holds for hirez music.
If you don't believe me ... walk into any high-end store in your local area and ask them what customers are looking for ... 7 out of 10 times they walkin and say "I want to build a Home Theater!"

DVD players are in what percentage of homes? DVD-A players on the market how long with how many DVD-A titles available? While I agree that DVD-A discs aren't jumping off the shelves, I think it fair to give it some time. This format is basically newborn.

"out of 10 times they walkin and say "I want to build a Home Theater!"That's also the feedback I am getting from my high-end dealer (in europe), he can hardly cope with the demand.

These customers don't say, I want to build a home theater so I can watch Mark Knopfler or James Taylor sing. The focus of DVDs with music on them is on the visuals of the artist playing, not the music itself. The visuals are distracting to serious music lovers.
