Rich was saying that DVD-Audio players are DVD-Video players and thus people were buying for VIDEO not AUDIO. Notme was correcting him by saying that the DVD-Video player that people buy that just so happens to be a DVD-Audio player, will play DVD-Audio discs. And at some point they may actually buy a Music DVD-Audio, not just movies, as Rich seems to think most owners of DVD-Audio players use them for playing movies. Please re-read, the following"
"Rich,
That conclusion is woefully incorrect and misleading. DVD-Audio players are DVD-Video players. As such, the correct conclusion is that today, DVD-Video players sell at a faster rate than they did when introduced."
Yeah, but hang on, if a DVD-Video player can play DVD-Audio discs, that makes it a DVD-Audio player, no?"
*********************************************************************
Notice: the quote "a DVD-Video player can play DVD-Audio discs makes it a DVD-Audio player, no?" Then go up to the next line where he quotes Rich boo-hoo'ing the 1.5 million sales of DVD-Audio machines saying that they are buying DVD-Video that just happens to play Audio, Notme just turned it around.
Follow Ups:
I think I got lost in the layers of sarcasm. I've gotta stay out of these DVD discussions.

Yep, Teresa got the jist of that post. DVD-Video players are selling like hot cakes, and if they happen to be DVD-Audio capable (fully, not just capable of playing the DVD-V layer) then that by definition makes them DVD-Audio players.Rich seems to think that nobody will notice or use the DVD-A capability, which is a lot like saying those who bought Laserdisc players only ever spun CDs on 'em.

***Rich seems to think that nobody will notice or use the DVD-A capability, which is a lot like saying those who bought Laserdisc players only ever spun CDs on 'em.***No, it's like saying those who bought Laserdisc players only ever watched movies on them...and that's what most folks did.

"No, it's like saying those who bought Laserdisc players only ever watched movies on them...and that's what most folks did."You mean they used the hardware and took advantage of superior format that the machine was capable of replaying? Kinda contradicting your own argument there...

people bought laserdisc players to play movies and the vast majority of people buy DVD players to play movies. Hardly anyone is interested in DVD-A.

"Hardly anyone is interested in DVD-A."You keep saying that, but there's no evidence to support the view. Lots of people on this forum, the people you argue tirelessly with every day are interested and so are countless others in newsgroups and upon web sites around the world. It's just as easy for me to say "hardly anyone is interested in SACD", I've no evidence to back that up either.
Maybe -you're- not interested, in which case there'd be no arguing. It's this "I speak for everyone" tone that gets up everyone's nose.

and your wish will be granted! Your fairy godmother told me so, so it must be true. Actually I read it in stereophile so it must be true. Keep trying Rich, soon everyone will actually believe what you say. Keep up the good work!! (anything to keep him off the streets and away from real people!!)
