Just got this disc today and had to listen to one cut immediately.
Wow! This kind of source material is justification for all the fancy wire and crazy caps and speaker fondling. This music is brought alive in your room with holographic layering of midrange and highs. The bass, as I've noticed more than once on SACD and MOFI stuff in particular, is a bit tubby and diffused, definitely without the impact and depth of the redbook. Is that more realistic or a failing of the format? I cannot decide. Bass also assumes a sort of musicality and depth, but at the expense of slam and amplitude. However, the trumpet, sax, piano, and drums are spectacularly resolved and realistic. I wonder what aspect of remastering or SACD format makes the highs and mids so incredibly clear, yet seems to somewhat muddle the bass. I'm pretty sure it is not my system, as low freq's are generally powerful and controlled (6 cu ft sealed 12" sub and four 8" woofers with separate amp, and bass traps). That's what makes me wonder if this is the way bass should sound, and redbook is actually the distorted medium.
Is it worth $30? I got my copy for considerably less, and it is worth it to me. I have enjoyed this music for a lot of years on LP and CD, but this incarnation is without a doubt the most immersive, and I have only stereo. I don't know if there is any surround information. I suggest you sample the music before investing, but you should realize that whatever other format you audition, it probably will not compare with the SACD for fidelity and plain beauty of sound.

Cool!
I forgot I had this. Have not listened to it yet... just cued up the ISO.
Nice!!

Have you spun this disc?
Excellent commentary on formats and source. Some of my favorite "Albums" are SACD's and sound spectacular. But the overall "strategy" I think is to optimize Red Book. And buy really cheap "albums". On the other hand, how does someone "like us" shelve spectacular? It's not easy.
I've got it on MoFi SACD, MoFi 45 RPM, and an original CBS/April Music UK pressing. Just need to get my SACD player back in service to make the comparisons.
Dave-
did you service your SACD player? Which brand/model(s) do you own?
I look forward in reading your impressions- Dave.
This weekend I passed several hours alternating between the Filles SACD and the MoFi and UK CBS LPs. Esoteric K-01X vs. Luxman PD444 with Kuzma 4P, SME 3012R, Accuphase AC-5, Grace F9 with Soundsmith OCL Ruby. These tonearm and cartridge combos differ primarily in their bass presentations--helping to parse the OP's perception of the MoFi's heavy basslines. All three sound fine. The SACD and the UK pressing have similarly neutral frequency balance. The MoFi 45 is addictive but the basslines are fatter and the palette seems richer than life-- which is probably WHY it's addictive...

Very nice gear- Dave. Thanks! for sharing.
Even added through Tidal, the album is great. The last track is a great percussive demo ...through my Lumin.
I love it when that happens.
Thanks! for sharing- Tom E.
the MoFi Miles Davis discs are getting very high marks on these SACD titles.
The recent MoFi releases are better than the Japanese SACDs of a few years ago,
My Funny Valentine and Four and More in particular.
Haven't heard Filles MoFi, but I'll be getting it.
