Yes, it is tough to get the model number. We have Craigslist here. When I lived in Virginia, I probably sent about 100 emails over a year and a half period with regard to listing and probably got 5 responses and with the exception of a couple, they had no clue what I was even talking about (they just wanted to sell).
It took me a year and a half to get the unit and after burning about 10 discs the laser went but I was able to send it here - http://www.efxcomputer.com/service/ps3-repair/
I knew absolutely zero about computer audio about 5 years back. I was fortunate as the local audio group where I used to live included Rich Hollis (https://www.facebook.com/HollisAudioLabs/) and he helped me thru the initial process. I bought a book (http://www.amazon.com/Serve-amp-Groove-Comprehensive-Numerically/dp/0985821701/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1460899592&sr=8-1) but never opened it. About 5+ years later now, I get by pretty well.

Thanks. I am becoming really frustrated by the current non-functional nature of things on the internet. Non-functional in the sense of not meeting the market's needs.
Even your book recommendation will not work for me as I might want it to because I am in the UK. I can buy it in paperback from Amazon.co.uk but not as a Kindle book. I would need it as a Kindle edition as my sight is failing and I can no longer easily read print. I can't download it from Amazon.com as I assume that its absence from the .co.uk store is because it is not licensed for the EU. If I did succesfully download it from the US Amazon store then I risk having my Kindle reader de-activated by Amazon (their usual tactic if you load copyright infinging works or buy e-books from another retailer).
In regard to the search for DSD files, my difficulty is, again, that of territorial copyright. Nearly all of the legitimate, genuine (not upsampled) DSD files that interest me are available for the USA only.
BTW I do at least have some basic knowledge of computer audio already and run a simple HDD/PC server system with JRiver MC. But configuring that appears easy in comparison to hacking PS3s. So I may not actually need that book especially as I am a Windows person and the book appears to be Mac centred. But it doesn't undo that sense of frustration.
He's a review with some details on what it covers (I probably should look at my book one of these days) - http://www.hifizine.com/2012/06/to-serve-and-groove-oliver-masciarotte/
Per this - you can buy the Kindle version in the UK - http://www.amazon.co.uk/To-Serve-Groove-Oliver-Masciarotte-ebook/dp/B0091ZDP6Q
If there is a problem getting a download - there are ways - http://lifehacker.com/use-google-as-a-proxy-server-to-bypass-paywalls-and-oth-799030304
Many thanks. You have been really helpful. I hope that i get the chance to reciprocate in some way in the future.
No Problem - that's what a place like this is for so we can all exchange info and learn
