The recent Sibelius Syms set performed by Okko Kamu with the Lahti Symphony is an outstanding achievement. The BIS SACD sound (in stereo) is also excellent - vibrant, natural with a great low end foundation. Every performance in the set is good to great. Wonderful stuff! My review is linked below.

Thanks for bringing our attention to this set. I found the set on Classicsonlinehdll. Just listened to sym #1 and really enjoyed it. Will listen to #2 later this evening. The Barbirolli is still my reference for #2. The finally still brings tears to my eyes
Again, thank you
Alan
Just finished listening to the 2nd symphony. This is one of my favorite symphonic works and I consider the final movement one of the truly great movements of any symphony. This performance is the worst I have ever heard. It conveys no emotion or passion, none what so ever. The final movement is a disaster. What should be a continuous build up to a thrilling finish goes no where. In fact in the final bars he almost brings the orchestra to a standstill robbing all the life out of this work. It is just the opposite of the Barbirolli. I will listen to the rest of this set but good not recommend this 2nd to anybody

I would have to agree that there seems to be a missing emotional 'hook' to the Okko Kamu/Lahti Sibelius set that just does not draw me in.OT RE: Sibelius
Listened to the Lemminkainen Suite above by Hannu Lintu and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and would be interested in their Sibelius 7 Symphonies if gets released on CD.
Available only as a DVD/Blu Ray now for about $100.

I have the Lintu on order from MDT. Currently on back-order :( Around $79 before shipping. Maybe it'll arrive in time for Christmas...
It must be the art. Trying turning it around while listening.
The Sibelius set I was referring to as being hard to fall in love with is the one recommended by the OP and pictured above.
Turning will not help. :-(
It is apparent that we see this symphony completely differently. I had Barbirolli in my collection but no more. To me it was all surface excitement with little understanding of the long view that Sibelius builds into the work. I much prefer Kamu. Such is music...
I've certainly been interested in this set ever since it was announced, but BIS/eClassical (both Robert and George) have thwarted my customer expectations by reporting that they were working on hi-rez multi-channel downloads YEARS ago. And, for the most part, I have been waiting ever since, with very few BIS purchases during this period. This last spring, Robert announced that they were at the beta-testing stage of multi-channel download availability, but they're STILL not available! Regardless of the reasons for the delays, the handling of them could be used as a case study in how NOT to set customer expectations.
And now, even if multi-channel downloads become available on the eClassical site, I'm in much less of a position to indulge in my purchasing desires, since I expect my finances to be tight for the next three years. Of course, I'm only one customer, but I still have the right to vent! ;-)
BTW, how did you get your moniker if you name is actually Mark?
Chris,
I seem to remember that Robert said that anyone who downloaded the hires version of an album would automatically be eligible for the multi-channel version at no extra cost. So you could enjoy the stereo version now and download the MCH later without paying again. Of course, then you are betting on whether or not MCH will ever be offered on eclassical.com.... :)
I have downloaded some hi-rez 2-channel files from BIS/eClassical, but not very many. I guess we'll see whether their multi-channel plans ever come to fruition.
.
Thanks for the reminder.
Had this one marked for listening as soon as it showed up, if ever, on the steaming sites I subscribe to but at the price offered by Amazon sellers, the SACD is well worth the investment.
