Album spins from the past few days with brief reviews:
Blue Man Group - "Audio" in DVD-Audio - very engaging with a complex & resonant sound - 4 out of 5.
Can - "Future Days" in SACD - hypnotic, trippy & ambient with expansive soundscapes - 5 out of 5.
Caravan - "In the Land of Grey and Pink" in DVD-Audio - one of the most beloved and eccentric prog albums of them all with the music switching between medieval folk and jazz - 4.5 out of 5.
Rory Gallagher - "Deuce" a masterpiece of advancing dynamics which captures the energy of a live performance in the studio - 5 out of 5.
Mark Knopfler - "Shangri-La" in DVD-Audio - featuring Knopfler's warm baritone, effortless guitar work and signature storytelling style of songwriting. It is melodic and tasteful - 4 out of 5.
Malo - "Malo" Excellent fusion of rock, soul, and Latin music with solid multi-layered percussive rhythms - 4.5 out of 5.
Rush - "Signals" in Blu-Ray Audio - where Rush finally completed the merger of electronics into their music while still rocking out, combining reggae and new wave - 4.5 out of 5.
Tool - "Lateralus" in HDCD - reminiscent of King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Rush with complex rhythm changes, haunting vocals, and amazing dynamics - a solid, well-produced album - 4 out of 5.
Follow Ups:
Four80East-Positraction. Could be their best effort yet. It has that groove thing where I find myself moving throughout the album except for track 7 ( SOFT FOCUS ) which is downright emotional, once you hear it, you will know what I mean. A must for all Four80East Fans!
