How important is this album? On the Virgin Top 1000, it ranks 23.
From "Changes" to "The Bewlay Brothers" this album sounds superb. If I could give a Blue Ribbon of Excellence for a remaster of an old album into digital, then I would give it to this one.
You may notice in the following graphs that the Total Peak Level stays at -4.0 db. That's the best I have tested so far. The Crest factor stays at 10 db or higher, which is also some of the best I have tested. You can see from the history graph the music stays well away from clipping the entire time. There is no clipping on any of the songs.
The dynamic range runs the gamut, but so does the music. There is plenty of dynamic range there for the songs that can use it.
I noticed that the crossover frequencies for most of the songs are 55kHz with a high of 58.7kzHz. That's a sample rate of 110kHz to 117.4kHz. That would mean that a 24/96 capture would not be getting all the bandwidth. Most but not all.
This album, to me, measures better than the two Steven Wilson remix albums I have.
In my opinion this is the best sounding version of this album I have ever heard. I wish all of these hi-res reissues we are seeing were remastered to this level of quality. There is also low level detail in spades.

I would like to point out how the spectrograph is also chronological. The beginning of the song is at the top, and the end of the song is at the bottom of the graph. At the beginning top you can see the funky alien noises and conversation at the start of the song.

Notice that they dynamically compress this rock song, but they don't run it near clipping. I don't think I've seen that before. They usually do both.

Low level detail aka microdetail really shows up on this song.
