I'm just beginning to explore Hi-Rez music downloads. I use the Wadia 151 PowerDac in a modest bedroom system. The 151 accepts data input rates up to 24 bit/192kHz. All data is upsampled to 24 bit/384kHz before the D to A conversion. I would appreciate the advice of those more experienced with Hi-Rez downloads concerning whether I can expect better sound from Hi-Rez downloads than from coaxial digital input to the PowerDac from redbook CDs. Thanks for the help!

. . . - and I agree with his general comments (although my own experience with hi-rez downloads has been extremely encouraging and gratifying and, unlike him, I prefer hi-rez files in general to CD's), it might partly depend on the type of music you listen to - my own good fortune with hi-rez downloads is based on downloads within the classical genre, which don't generally seem to have the problems with dynamic compression (loudness wars) which I see complaints about with some other types of music.
You will get both opinions
Mine is no
Others will say yes
Only you can answer your question
