We have 70 members in our audio club here in Texas and my friend has 90 in Florida. 160 audiophiles. About 10 have surround sound. Surround sound systems are also used mainly to watch and listen to movies. For audiophiles surround is a small niche in an already small nich and your constant pushing of surround is not going to change that. I would much rather have your expertise dedicated to 2 channel which is what most of us listen too.

There always has to be someone ahead of his time to listen to a different drummer and challenge the status quo. True progress would not be possible otherwise. In these newer technologies, like Mch and room correction, there could be no one better than Kal to take on that role. His experience, his knowledge, his temperament, his estimable writing skills and his genuine truth seeking nature make him the best of the best in audio journalism today, IMHO.
It is not just me, but most all the frequent classical concert goers I know well are way beyond totally convinced that Mch coupled with room correction are providing the very finest home audio music reproduction ever heard in terms of greater truth to the live event. Change of an entrenched, long established set of norms is always hard. But, this stuff is the real deal and a significant step up over the stereo my friends and I had known for decades before now.
It is indeed a great shame that many more audiophiles have not heard it on a high quality, properly set up system. But, that does not invalidate these technologies and their capabilities. It just makes those of us who agree with Kal on them a minority, a fortunate few, for now at least.
@ Fitzcaraldo215 I couldn't think of your moniker at the time of my post but it was indeed you and Kal both that indeed swayed me to my new world of multi/ch sacd bliss! The Audyssey XT32 I experienced for the first time with an Marantz 8801 with an Oppo 105 for 2/ch, this leveled the playing field between the two and was the final piece of the puzzel with multi/ch coming out on top from my ever growing sacd collection.
Just wanted to say Thanks guys for going against the trend and holding it down!
Thank you so much. That is very gratifying, and I am quite sure Kal feels the same way.Neither Kal nor I need to engage in this Mch or room correction advocacy to make a buck, win popularity contests or to have our egos bolstered. We share these views with fellow audiophiles only because we believe they are true and that more people should know about them, even against all odds.

Well someone has to do it! As a primary 2/ch guy ,I will admit that there are some multi/ch tracks that are transformative and this happens to be one of them. The stereo is indeed closed in but far from it in multi/ch. Kal's efforts are just fine as they are, as I'm enjoying multi/ch sound with a well treated room and Digital room correction and mostly due to his push on the later as well.

by the many reviewers in print and on the web. Although my interest is shared with a small subset of audiophiles, I am confident that my efforts are appreciated by them.
In this case, however, I think you are scratching your own itch because my question did not "push" MCH but only asked on what format the OP based his assessment.
I was just wondering since SACD seems to be the major source of surround sound and SACD is disappearing what is the future of surround other than movies. I know there are plenty of 2 channel reviewers but they normally don't post on the asylum

Well, there are still SACDs being released in modest numbers, there are BD-A discs, there are MCH DSD/FLAC file downloads and I have not yet heard everything that I have already bought.
at least on Amazon.
