Please check the link below for the 105's spec. I have read it on the net that it can play DSD only if you burn the DSD files to DVDs and then spin the disc. But not from USB.
Follow Ups:
My BDP-105 without a D plays DSD files from the hard drive.
Cannot comment on the comparison with the Marantz. I play SACD on a Esoteric DV-60 and CD on a Pioneer CLD-HF9G/Esoteric DD-10/Esoteric D-30 combination. But it does sound fine on its own.
This is on the page describing firmware history at oppodigital.com:
Release Date: May 3, 2013
Loader Version:
6U0900 or 7B1000 (BDP-103)
7B1000 (BDP-105)
Sub Version:
MCU103-05-0916 (BDP-103)
MCU105-04-01113 (BDP-105)
1. Added support for Direct Stream Digital (DSD) file playback from local storage. The DSD files can be either stereo or multi-channel. Both the DFF and the DSF formats are supported.
I'm guessing local storage is a USB stick or drive connected to one of the USB ports.
Thank You for the update. Was not aware of this. Saves some bucks. How is the sound of CD/SACDs on D vs non-D? Anyone did any comparison?
But you can, also, pull them from a network source via Ethernet.
