Anybody downloaded/bought this yet?
I'm leaning toward the 24/192 download, simply because I presume it was originally recorded in PCM.
Anyone have different info?
Follow Ups:
Just ordered the album thru Soundstage Direct, already have the mastersound CD.
Just got the Vinyl and SACD. The SACD is significantly better than the original CD in all respects. It was worth the wait. I haven't listened to the vinyl yet. In my opinion, Roger Waters is a genius.
Completely agree.
In my system, the Vinyl edges out the SACD, but both sound great.

the small print and weed out suspect ones. I see little reason to buy expensive remastered analog tapes, made to someone else's musical taste.
It is remade and changed to Roger Waters taste who is the original creator of this music

Just received the Vinyl and it is excellent. Have also streamed it on Tidal which sounded good but the vinyl is way better. Have not heard the DSD and won't.
Alan
None of my business. But are you bothered that DSD might beat vinyl?
:-))
For what it's worth.
Both, honestly, both are really good, and it boils down to "do you like vanilla or chocolate" - the SACD I found a little airier, and the Vinyl a little meatier.
Both sound good. And it might be slight influence of the gear, too.

Not at all. When DSD first came out I bought a bunch of DSD downloads. I had the Mytek Stereo 192 Dac to play them on. Also hooked up an Audio Note transport to the Mytek to play CDS. When I compared the DSD downloads to original CDS of the same music I either heard no difference or thought the CD was better. I still feel that the expense of DSD downloads is a ripoff and do not by them any more. I do buy vinyl or stream from Tidal or Classicsonline and am perfectly happy. I am more concerned with the quality of the original recording and the quality of the mastering or remastering. If these are done well they will sound good in any format.
Alan
The DSD download sounds quite amazing.
I'm on the fence, teetering between buying the vinyl and recording at 24/192 and just buying the DSD for half the cost.

The really good DSD recordings sound better to me than my best vinyl. However, there are so many crappy recordings on all formats that you have be very selective. Nevertheless, topnotch DSD recordings sound stunningly realistic to me.

You need a new book or at least a new turntable
Alan
What release(s) do you have in both vinyl and DSD?
-reub
I have Ahmad Jamal's Alhambra, Rickie Lee Jones' Traffic From Paradise, Shelby Lynne's Just a Little Lovin'...there may be more.
In general I think DSD is excellent and can be equal to or better than vinyl. It's certainly quieter. There are so many variables.
Another reason I prefer making my own recordings, I know what I'm getting. I can also remove most of the noise without hurting SQ with RX4. Paying premium prices for upsampled low rez is not worth it.
I'll probably buy the DSD of Amused to Death. Since both are being released at the same time, it's likely the same source.
So far I am less than impressed.
A few things are a little different, nothing dramatic.
I have the Sony SBM gold cd; and this new one might sound a BIT better than that, but not night & day.
It's not that it sounds better or worse but it is different. New mixes and some new material. I have the gold cd and the new vinyl and prefer the gold cd. But then it was new to me. Now it is just old stuff
Alan
Ruben, did you mean in general or have you heard both versions of this new release?
The DSD is half the cost. The biggest reason I'm wavering is because I enjoy making my own recordings.
Randy
I think once your playback has reached a certain level it is a bit of "pick your poison"
I tend to like LP's over SACD. Slightly. And it is highly recording dependent. I tend not to do A/B or get caught int he trap. I listen to streamed some nights, vinyl others, SACD some others.
All depends!

.
I use a Sony D100 DSD Recorder to record albums, works great.
Just spend a little time to get Optimum recording level for each album.
I'm using a Tascam DA-3000. I've not recorded to DSD simply because there's no way to edit. However, direct comparisons to purchased DSDs are very close to my vinyl recordings.
Did you buy a new DAC? I'm very happy with the Exasound e12.
Hi, No, not yet, but I'm very interested.
I use Korg Audiogate to edit.
I've already got a Korg DSD Dac 100, Mytek192/DSD Dac, and a Sony Hap Z1.
The Exasound will be next!
Just heard this on Tidal. Roger Waters has added new material and changed in places existing material. It is also a completely new mix. I have only listened once and am not sure if I like it better than the original. I have sent for the Vinyl
Alan
With this reissue is the piano in track 3 still floating up in the right channel? The best I've heard this track is on a pair of Quad's at UnderwoodWally's house and it was something and I had to rush out and buy the disc right then.
