Gerald - in the link below, please see under Technology & Specifications, the first entry for What is a Hybrid SA-CD. If you read further, you will see that over 90% of SACD disks today are in fact hybrids. Ergo, they can be played on a conventional CD player, just not at DSD resolution. Brain lock?

So why is it my hybrid SACD,s will not play the mch SACD layer on a CD player ?
Because, dear Gerald, there is no such thing as Mch CD. The CD layer of an SACD is stereo only, as are all Red Book CDs. Mch, if present, is available only from the DSD layer, along with stereo DSD, and the DSD layer can only be played by an SACD player, unlike the CD layer on the same hybrid disc, which can be played on any CD player. The hybrid SACD disc looks exactly like any other CD to a CD-only player.
Please reread carefully the FAQ at sa-cd.net.
You hung in there with him and showed a LOT more restraint that I would have. If he doesn't know by now that the vast majority of SACDs contain a CD-compatible layer, 2-channel only, that can be played back by virtually every CD player - including car CD players - then he is NEVER gonna be able to add anything of substance to this thread. This is SACD 101 for anyone...
