Use their CD/SACD player for SACD playback only and also use it as a transport into a DAC for RBCD playback?Besides the cost of the DAC, you would also need a digital cable and another pair of interconnects (assuming you didn't want to swap interconnects every time you switched between SACD and CD).
Thanks!
Gerry

Marantz SA11S2 (custom modded) for SACD playback, and used as Transport for RBCD.
Audio GD Master 7 DAC (in stock form) for RBCD.

PS-
whom modded your Marantz spinner?
I enjoy tweaking Electronics as I am a R&D EE for more than 25 years in practice.

Can you describe your mod(s) to the Marantz ?
As the Modifications were done 4 years back, IIRC :1. Improvements to the I/V converter's critical resistors & Caps. Improved power supply decoupling
2. Improved supply decoupling to the LPF section.
3. Upgraded the NFB network resistors of the O/P buffer section to Caddock MK132
4. Increased the audio section supplies from +/- 11V to +/- 12V.
5. Output coupling caps upgrades and additional bypass with 1uF 200V PPFX-S
6. Tweaked to the 5.6V Zener Voltage reference from the Main regulator (+/- 12V now)
7. Changed the Caps for main supplies de-coupling and added Solen MKP Caps.
8. Improved de-coupling to the 5V voltage reference at the negative input of the I/V converters.
9. Many other small tweaks that unable to recall now. Most of the audio section's original caps and resistors been changed (Both values and types).Regards

I now have re-configured my system to incorporate my subwoofer on a Y from my front 2 channels. And put Morrow MA-3s on the output of my Oppo BDP-83 for SACDs.
For CDs I use an old, but much better transport - a Sony S7000 and then into my DAC.
So, I'm essentially doing what you proposed, only I now switch transports also, for CDs.
which DAC are you using w/ the Sony?

Very nice.
I'm using a Marantz SA-11S3 which has outstanding CD as well as SACD playback. However, Schiit's statement DAC the Yggy, will be available soon and is supposed to be very special.Gerry

McI tosh SACD/CD player. Into a Pre=amp for SACD and analog out for CDs. But I use the digital out into my DAC for CD most of the time as it is a better DAC than the internal McIntosh one.
Sony DVP-NS500V, analog SACD out to preamp for SACD, optical digital out to DAC (Behringer DEQ2496 with internal AKM 4393 DAC).

I use my Sony 3100ES disc player for SACD and used to play CDs through it and a Peachtree iDac. Now all of my CDs have been transferred to a Sony HAP-Z1ES player and I no longer have the Peachtree. Occasionally I'll play a CD through the 3100 though.
Prisoner-
how do you like the 3100 ?
So much that I bought a second one. It sounds great with SACD and better than every other disc player I tried with CD. I had a Denon 2900 and an Integra DPS 6.7 on hand for a direct comparison. SACD was very good on all of them but I preferr the Sony for CD. (All direct, no external DAC used). I sold the Denon and kept the Integra. Only complaint about the Sony us the long loading time.
That really says alot. I can remember at one time, not long ago, Sony used a slogan "It's A Sony".
Here it is with the other Sony pieces
Hey Prisoners,
How do you like the Sony amp? Can you compare it to other amps you may have used (or heard) in the past.
Thanks
I bought the Sony amp TA-1ES on their 30 Day trial offer and despite the IMO false magazine rave reviews it sounds very artificial ,.I returned it for a full carriage paid refund. I am a Sony fan and for the past 6 years have and still use the excellent Sony combo Str-DA5400ES AVR (UK version with HATS) & the XA5400ES SACD/CD player. This latest Sony amp has several defects, the heat sinks are too small and it runs too hot,the pre can not be separated from the power amp so it will not be suitable for use in a HT or surround setup, as always you must try before you buy and ignore all magazine reviews.
Mine doesn't run hot and the lack of pre-outs is not a defect, just a feature that isn't there. I wouldn't describe it as "artificial" but I'm not claiming it's the last word in amplification either. IMO it's an amazing integrated amplifier in it's price class that would probably cost twice as much if anyone other than Sony made it. Frankly I don't see how they are making anything on this or the companion HAP-Z1ES that also sells for $2k. The two work very well together especially when using XLR cables.
Every amplifier (separates or integrated) that I thought outperformed the Sony by a real difference cost a lot more. Products from Hegel and Rogue that I took home were no doubt better sounding but only after reaching the $7-8K mark. Those that I listened to in the Sony's price range did not equal it. Bottom line is I'm very happy with this system and it's relative affordability.
I compared it to a few of the better amps that I've either owned or took home for a couple of weeks. I've owned plenty of others that weren't in the same league such as Yamaha, Integra, Adcom, and B&K.
Beautiful! pic.
I did at one point (do file playback now) until I found I liked the overall presentation using an HDMI audio de-embedder out of my Oppo BDP-83 (converting to 24/88.2) and going into the DAC. I do that in a secondary system now. I have file playback but if someone wants to play an SACD I have the de-embedder and an upgraded power supply for it. I have another digital cable from the coax output of the player if someone wants to hear a CD.
Hi, I know this is an old topic, but what de-embedder are you using?
I have an Oppo 83SE, and I'd never heard of this.
