In Reply to: RE: How did you download an SACD? posted by PAR on February 10, 2015 at 22:22:15
If the DSD layer is ripped to an ISO file, you can download the ISO and then burn it to a blank DVD resulting in an SACD disc. It is done all the time...

You are talking about ripping. Ripping (transferring from a silver disc to a computer file) is not the same as downloading (transferring a file to a computer from an external web based source).Yes, I do know about ripping SACD. That's why I answered ahendler's question "Yes, there's all kinds of stuff that I know. ". Sorry if I gave the impression that I was saying "No" by use of the word" Yes".
BTW you can also rip SACD using early Sony Playstations.
We therefore still don't know what calloway actually listened to. Using the term download clearly implies that he doesn't actually have the SACD to rip it whatever method one may use.

I am NOT talking about ripping. I am *clearly* talking about downloading. The ripping occurs when the SACD disc is ripped to an ISO file. Then you *download* this file. Then you re-create the SACD by burning ISO file to a blank DVD disc. You then have an *exact copy* of the SACD in your hands. And if you happen to have an Oppo player with the earlier firmware - which I do - you can play the ISO file directly and it is, effectively, an SACD.
Why are you being soooo pedantic about this?

There are some official media owners, like Petnatone Classics, who on their website offer SACD images to download. These can be played by several (computer) players like Jriver and Foobar for example, and if you have your system set up to deliver DSD to a DAC (either over USB or ethernet) you can enjoy the recording in the original delivery format.
You can also burn a DVD from this image and it can play in certain disc players, which are not set up with the proper SA-CD security settings. Many other players will not play such a disc.
