I look forward to what the PCM/Flat-Earthers will say about that!
"Well, maybe on this One recording...."What's the Bit-Rate for the PCM ?
Edits: 02/09/15Follow Ups:
The PCM/Flat-Earthers say that if the mastering is done for SACD and pcm 24/96, and compressed to fit on cd, then the "hi-rez" format will sound better.
If the same recording is re-mastered for CD WITH THE SAME CARE as for SACD, then you will approve both formats equally. Only your dog and your cat will be able to tell the difference, if your equipment can reproduce the "extra details" in the ultra-high frequencies of course.
Sorry, I don't know the technical details of the recording, other than that it's PCM. That kind of stuff does not matter to me at all.
What matters is the sound. I am certain that the CD layer is not anywhere near as good as the SACD. On my friend's expensive system, we first played CD through Kora tubed DAC. I was very disappointed in what I heard, thought perhaps my enthusiasm was misplaced. Then we played in surround through stock Oppo 105, which I think is not much better than decent. All the magic that I heard in stereo through my modded Marantz was back, plus a bit more air and space.
Peace,
Tom E
