Has any one heard this pair of two new SACDs? These are relatively new and were recorded by the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra. How good are the performances, and more important how good are the sonics?
Thanks,
Pete

does anyone have a feel for the sonic quality of these two discs?
based on published reviews and comments in forums such as this, then the sonic quality of the reproduction become the ONLY remaining major criterion that matters. I must say that in truth, from my own personal perspective, given the number of high quality performances available in hirez for most of the top of the line repertiore today, I would always prefer to purchase A+ sonics matched with A- performance rather than the other way around.
"If performance and instrumentation are no longer the issue, based on published reviews and comments in forums such as this, then the sonic quality of the reproduction become the ONLY remaining major criterion that matters."To be sure. However, evaluations of all these parameters seem to be favorable from SA-CD.NET, so their disassociation is not necessary.
However, I was making the point that, if the performance and instrumentation were not attractive, there is no reason to care about the sonic qualities.

based on the positive feedback received so far. My only point in stressing the quality of the sonics is to strive to have the best of both worlds. In the real world, assuming that performance, musicality, instumentation, etc. meet reasonably high standards, I will always break the tie in favor of the quality of the reproduction. After all, this is the Hi-Rez forum.
I am luke warm about these, the recording is pretty good but I wished that the level of the harpsichord was a bit higher.
Sure it is not a loud instrument and the perspective is maybe ok to some.
It is just my wish that it sounded a bit more prominent.
