Jim,
You may be surprised by how well the BDP- 95 competes with the audio of the DV-50, as well as being an excellent video processor. But it won't match the DV-50 for remote weight. OTOH, you can take its analog output directly to your amps and still have speaker management. Use the stereo outputs for front LR, not the surround front LR, and consult the manual for menu setup in that mode. I have Ayre C-5xeMP and Sony XA5400ES disc players in addition to a BDP-105, but if I could only have one it'd be the jack-of-all-trades 105.

As it is I'll be using one set of single-ended outputs for my ICBM analog bass management, and the balanced for "true" stereo. The Anthem AVM 20 is a pretty transparent pre-amp. If I like the Oppo enough, and the Samsung 51" 5500 passes muster as a display, I could look at going to a 105 and a new pre-pro such as the Marantz 8801. Eliminating the pre-pro is attractive but my wife listens to the radio a lot. For now I'm more or less expecting to go back to using the Esoteric after repair in my main system and using the Oppo as a Blu-Ray player with the Samsung TV and some sort of streamlined active speaker system.
IME, Anthem builds solid power amps and pre-amp/processors.
Their power amps are very robust.
