You can leave Even if you have tenure, it's not Jail!
I wouldn't hope for any recordings for some while, tho.
It will taqke a long time for them to get back.
Follow Ups:
if he honestly thought that he had lost forever all or even a large percentage of the orchestra.
But I have only a few data points and they include biased supporters of Vanska and the orchestra. ;-)
They'll have Butts in Chairs in the Orch, and try to make it a success with Donors and Grant Givers, and the Public.
They will face a LOT of Musical Scrutiny, I'm sure.
But it won't be the Same Orch , that History of the Minnesota Orch
has been broken and they have to build something new, and gain Trust all around, it may not happen.
but, regards the 2014-2015 season:
"The repertory highlights include performances of Sibelius’s Third, Sixth and Seventh Symphonies, led by Mr. Vanska..."
We'll see.
The thing is, when it closed down, people still gad to make a living, and there's no guarantee the New version will be stable financially, people may not Flock Back, it's been a while, people move on.
Cincinnatti had their seasons and pay cut in half not long ago.
Life as a Classical Musician is not always one of Job Certainty, many have had to regroup and find something else in their careers.
It will be tough for them to get back, speaking of both groups.
I certainly wish them the Best.
