I've just had an excellent Sony repair experience on my SCD-C2000ES SACD player, and thought I'd mention it here. Perhaps you are already all well aware...I haven't been on this thread in some years, but back in the day getting Sony to repair these things was a hassle.
My machine had the dreaded "won't read hybrid disks" problems. I took it out of the system and put my older SCD-C222ES back into the system, and let the SCD-C2000ES sit for a few years. Since the SCD-C222ES sometimes could be coaxed to play SACD on hybrid disks, it was a step forward. But at the same time my music listening dropped off sharply.
Recently I decided to see if I could get both units repaired. So I went online and used Sony's online repair request service. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was easy and at a flat rate $119 including return postage. So I sent back the SCD-2000ES to see if in fact the service fixed the problem, and it did via three parts replacements. The machine is once again working in my system and I am boxing up the SCD-222ES for a trip to Texas.
If any of you have an older non-modified Sony sitting around that you've given up on, you might want to give it a try.

Follow Ups:
It just so happens that last weekend, I bought a Sony SCD2000ES SACD player at a thrift store for $30. I wanted a changer in the living room for the wife, and this one looked very nice. I have a few hybrid SCAD CD (ADCO Rolling Stones) so I will have to give on a try. I have been listening to Redbook through Sennheiser HD 555 headphones and it sound pretty good. It sounds better on Redbook than I would have thought by reading the post in the Archives. Imaging is excellent with a wide, deep soundstage. The headphone amp is very good.
I wanted to know, what were the parts that they replaced? What is your opinion of this player? (I suspect it is good since you were willing to shell out $119 to get it up and running.

That is a pretty good player Dave. At the price paid, it is a steal!
Unfortunately, it does not want to read my hybrid SACD's. It reads the CD layer only. Of course I mainly got it for CD playback, so it is not a big deal, but I may wind up doing the repair eventually.

I will clean the leans and there is also a very easy way to align the laser with a hybrid disk, which I will also try.

Keep us posted. I wish that Matt Anker (SACD MODS) were still in business...
Thanks! for sharing Harry.
Did you use the Sony Laredo shop?
It is important to post both positive & negative experiences (for the rest of us) upon dealing w/ retailers and/or manufacturers!
Yes, I was automatically scheduled online with the Laredo facility.
