I have just read the article on Sony's HAP-Z1ES in the March issue of The Absolute Sound. In there, the author states that his conversion of RB PCM to DSD via the HAP-Z1ES did not generate an improvement in the sound (p. 160, para3).
I wonder if anyone on this forum has used the HAP-Z1ES and can elaborate on this issue. One of the main reasons I would buy the HAP-Z1ES is to get an improved RB PCM conversion.

Check the Audiogon and Audiocircle (critic's circle) forum threads. Owners there state they like the upsampling very much. The reviewer for What Hifi liked it too: http://www.whathifi.com/review/sony-hap-z1es

I can't seem to find this anywhere in the forums.
Do you have a link?
