The Sony BDP-S790 (4.4 lbs) is significantly lighter in weight than the S780 and how would that affect SQ, PQ and overall reliability? So long as this thing lasts a couple of years most people will be happy with it. Sadly this stuff is all disposable.

This is not an answer as to how the 790 compares to the Oppo 93.I have the even better 760 BDP1000ES in US , This Sony blows away the over hyped Oppo 93 especially for sound quality when used with Sony DA5400ES
Sony is cutting costs to increase margins and the new Sony Blu-ray players do not have the same build quality as previous models like the Sony BDP-S5000ES. So long as the cheap Sony BD models lasts a couple of years with losing quality and reliability most people will be happy with it.

The Sony BDP-S5000ES was a very expensive player at £1200 . When they were being sold off at half price I bought one but actually prefer the BDP 760 which has the advanced features of the 5000. I sold it on finding it too heavy & cumbersome.
