In Reply to: RE: should I "upgarde" to sa11s2 from sa11s1? posted by jygesq on June 13, 2012 at 10:42:46
I also am interested in whether the SA-11S2 makes the quiet (mechanical) transport "whine" that I hear from my SA-11S1. The noise is only heard in the first few minutes while playing a disc, and is usually masked by all but the lowest level music. It gradually decreases as the disc "slows down" over the course of play.
Anyone have an answer to whether this SPECIFIC problem also occurs with the new transport of the SA-11S2?
Thanks!
Ken

I never heard the transport whine from my old S1 or with my current S2. I'll listen for it report back.
please do that THANKS
I should mention that on my machine the transport "whine" is mainly audible when playing CDs, or especially on the CD layer of hybrid SACDs.I don't notice a whine on the SACD layer, just a barely audible swish.

Played a number of Cd's and SACD's last night. Listened hard for a whine of some sort but I could not hear any. Didn't try Cd layer on SACD.
om my sa11s1 i only get transport noise on SACD playback, NOT CD . The noise decreases as the disc is played longer. SACD speed is at 2 x that of cd,

Oops, you're right, I had it backwards! The "whine" IS mainly on SACD.
It's been a while since I really noticed the noise - guess I'm used to it (and it really isn't intrusive, anyway, with normal listening.

my same question exactly. I have no problem with sound of s1. I love it. Just the drive.
