Ok, i got myself a new spinner - EMM CDSA-SE.
now - what to do with the trusty DVP-s9000es? (mine is EU "gold" version)
it's in absolute mint condition.
~250$ for such a classic is painfull to think about.....
to keep it is to use it as a paiper weight.....
second system i don't have (and let's face it - in a stock form it's pretty mediocre CD player and for today's standards it's pretty pathetic as a DVD player).....
what whould you do? (and why?)
is it's aesthetics, if it's 'Gold' finish does it for you then by all means keep it. However, bear in mind that a relatively modest priced modern player will outperform in every way, have better disc rejection rate and read many more formats.
I sold mine many moons ago and I do not miss it at all.

To be frank, if you get the thing modded using Allen Wright's mods, it will likely sound better than your new EMM player.
My modded Sony DVP-S9000es equaled a Riemyo, which was better than EMM Labs player, and my player only had a stock clock (but the power supply to the clock was improved).
Retsel
yes,
but i didn't want to go that way because of various reasons.
beside subjective ones this Sony doesn't play CDR's and price i paid for s/h EMM over my existing CD player is just a little more than VSE price.
other mods are far too expensive for me due to shipping charges to/from US and there is a risk of damage during shipping. ah, and customs of cource. both in US and here......
especially if you have room in your rack.
So your Meitner is pretty darn bulletproof, - but what happens if the kids put oatmeal in the CD tray? At least you'll have backup. What if you want to rent a DVD?
My APL is an Universal and I have a bluRay player now. But, - I still use the APL for rented DVDs and Netflix. Sometimes I get a goofy DVD that makes a HUGE racket with the transport. So I go to the bedroom and grab the Toshiba DVD. I would much rather take down a $350 Toshiba with a bad disc, than my really good sounding DVD, SACD, CD, and digital input and pre-amp/volume controlled, HEART of my system.
