In Reply to: RE: Paganini's 24 caprices: Accardo on Fone': Anyone heard this? posted by egidius on October 31, 2009 at 16:57:54

I haven't heard all the recorded renditions of the Caprices, but, with a booklet cover like this, this newest release has GOT to be good. :-)
I donno what to say, since I cannot show my bare shoulders, or at least would not have the same effect.
But try and listen to Zehetmair, completely different world again..

She won the 2007 Tchaikovsky competition and plays on the 1727 Strad that once belonged to Joseph Joachim.
There are two Zehetmair recordings, one for Teldec about 15 or so years ago, and a new on on ECM. The former is excellent; I haven't heard the later one yet.
Rabin is still my favorite.
Used to have his Sibelius Concerto with Masur and the LGO. I also have a couple of, ahem, "private" DVD-Audios of a couple of his NY performances.I'll try to get a copy of the Caprices and give it a listen.
