Looking for help... Something funky happened to my C-5xe. It won't pick up the SACD layer on hybrid discs and reverts to the CD layer. Upon reading the disc, the display shows "SACD -1 CD" with the "-1" flashing before reverting to the CD layer. C-5xe owners, has this happened to you before? I've since disconnected the power cord. Is there a way to reboot the player other than pulling out and plugging back in the power cord? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions before I have to contact Ayre.

You have the symbol between the words wrong. It is more like an arrow (" --> ") implying that it is changing from SACD to CD.
It may be that the laser has gone bad. Try playing a DVD-Audio (or DVD-Video if that's all you have) and see what happens. If it spits the disc out, then you know that the DVD laser (also used for SACD's) is bad.
If the DVD disc plays properly, then you can try to reset the player. Unplug it for a minute ot so, and then plug it back in. Next, press and hold the "Stop" button on the front panel while pressing the "Standby" button to "On". This will re-set everything to the Pioneer default settings. After that use the supplied metal remote control and press "5", "4", "3", "2", "1" in sequence while it is aimed at the front panel display area. You will see some of the front panel lights flash. This takes about 30 seconds and will re-set everything to the Ayre default settings.
If that doesn't work, call Michael at 303=442-7300 x223 and arrange for an RMA. Please have the serial number ready and also the purchasing information (dealer and date of purchase). The transport has a two-year warranty. If you need to send it back you might also consider getting the "MP" upgrade at the same time.
The reset worked! You saved my holiday weekend! Thank you so much, Charles!!
It was reading DVD-A and regular SACD fine; it just had the problem with hybrid SACDs.
That said, I'm still considering sending it in for the MP update. Heard nothing but good things about it.

The update is well worth the money. The only problem is the wait. We have a six week backlog, plus the round-trip shipping time. But they say patience is a virtue!
Sounds good, Charles. I'll give you guys some time to chip away the backlog!

Did unplugging and replugging not help? This will be the first thing that Ayre will suggest. I lost CD playback and solved the problem when they told me to do this.
Call Ayre. They are very helpful.
Thank you, Botanico.
You're welcome. I sent mine in for upgrade this past week. I'll post when I get it back. It will probably need to break in.
If you decide to upgrade, you will need to get a date through the dealer where you bought the player. I had to wait over a month.
