Telarc, it seems, now prefers the DAD (Digital Audio Denmark) converters to the Meitners. I have also heard that the Grimm Audio converter is suppose to be super too. It looks like even better sound ahead for the DSD followers.

We're using the DAD AX-24 in DSD mode except when in-use as a pcm converter, and very occasionally in DXD mode. We're also using the EMM Labs converters right alongside the DAD in addition to our Prism converters. Lots of great tools to get the job done!EMM doesn't manufacture for the pro market anymore. DAD gives us an excellent-sounding alternative that's also extremely versatile in recording formats. Our "La Boheme," recorded LIVE in-concert with Robert Spano/Atlanta Symphony Orchestra/Chorus and Guests is among our first recordings made with the AX-24. We just had an advance "preview" of La Boheme on Thursday in NYC for a large group of reviewers with lots of excitement about the release there! I also used the AX-24 as the first eight channels (piano & keyboard tracks) of a 32-track DSD session with Hiromi's Sonicbloom at Allaire Studios, recorded through their Air Montserrat Neve board. The remaining 24 channels of converters were EMM Labs. All converters fed a Sonoma 32-track DSD system set up and run by Gus Skinas of the Super Audio Center. Above is a photo from the Hiromi session illustrating the studio setup with the first 16 channels of converters in the studio. There are glass optical links to the Sonoma system in the control room.

It sounded OK at the "preview" but the setup was far from ideal. At home, however, it was quite impressive.

So that's the first Telarc recording with the new DAD converter.
Does anyone have any knowledge about what other SACDs we might see from Telarc in 2008?

Pretty old news really. I've also switched to DAD, but still use my Meitners. I am now doing almost everything is DXD. I think it's the greatest!

Bruce

(Not picking on you, Ric. Just pointing out Sony's Baloney.)

- It appears to be a multi-standard recorder with all PCM up to 384kHz, DXD and DSD. - Teresa 20:43:26 04/04/08 (1)

"Although the DAD AX24 fully supports all of the standard PCM sampling depths and rates, all the way up to 24-bit 384kHz, and is consciously designed to be user-updateable as different standards emerge, Bishop used it to encode Direct Stream Digital (DSD), which is currently the Telarc standard and which is made available to consumers on Super-Audio CD. The AX24 is also capable of encoding the related protocol, DXD, and is available with two, four, six, or eight I/Os."
Maximum sample rate can be upgraded from/to 48 kHz, 96 kHz, 192 kHz, or 384 kHz, DXD, and DSD.
Give me Stereo or give me silence!

There was a previous posting on this A/D that implied that it did DXD only and not DSD. My bad for not investigating more fully.
