Is this SACD any good in terms of performance and recorded quality? I notice the earlier living Stereo recordings @1955, like Rubinstein's Brahms 1st Piano Concerto, do not sound as amazing as those from 1959 onwards. I'm thinking of picking this one up, together with Cliburn's Beethoven Emperor. Thanks! DkB
The performance on Rubinstein's disc is first rate & irreplacable. The sound on Liszt's concerto seems to be the best on this disc. You should get this disc without any hesitation.
My reference for these two classic works and a demo disc for sound (yep, it's that good!!) :)
I don't have the Rubinstein. I have been waiting for some opinions before I take the plunge though the cost is cheap.
I'm getting the CLiburn based on your recommendation below. Will wait for feedback about the Rubinstein before taking the plunge.
