FYI, everything on Tower Records on-line is at least 25% off the normal price. If your order exceeds $40, you can use coupon code J7F4T3Y for an additional 15% off. If the total exceeds $100, they throw in free 2nd day shipping! I just ordered a dozen SACDs at an average cost of around $11 each. They also have a few Analogue Productions SACDs for $22 (with the 15% coupon code, the final cost is less than $19).
Lately I have been buying a lot of stuff from HMV Japan, so I would love to know if there is a site significantly cheaper than them. CD Japan doesn't seem that much cheaper.
I've been mainly collecting all the Studio Ghibli movies (think I now have nearly all of them, including the short films), but sometimes they seem to have SACDs I have not seen elsewhere.
The prices are still better than Tower's at 40% off. Shipping is not bad when you buy a bunch (came out to $3.17USD per disc on my 7-disc order). Depends on your exchange rate, of course.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your venture into full HD.
My most recent acquisition is the latest APL Denon 3910/3930 design for my stereo system, picked up last Saturday. Replaces my now defunct APL SACD1000. Transcendent...unlike anything else I have heard, this player effectively recreates all the drama, scale and involvement of live music. Alex designs positively amazing stuff. But I'm glad in a way that I've not heard his top design, the NWO 2.5, since it's out of my price range.
Besides the Studio Ghibli DVDs, have been buying a lot of other Japaneses movies and music. Currently trying to learn Japanese so I can understand them without the subtitles. I can now finally understand what the Japanese director was telling Bill Murray in "Lost in Translation", plus the Japanese dialogue in "The Last Samurai" so I was pretty pleased with that, but still a long way to go in terms of understanding a Japanese movie from start to finish.
Glad you are enjoying your latest player. I haven't heard any of Alex's efforts, but if you like the sound that's what really counts, isn't it?
Yes, we are enjoying the HC5000 immensely. The HQV processing is great on SD content, and we have over 1 terabyte of HD content that we've recorded off the air over the last few years. The quality is so good I'm restraining myself from rewatching everything all at once (otherwise I'll be glued to the couch for weeks).
Both extremely thought provoking & very highly recommended.
A fellow student in Japanese class is also attending film school, and she's seen all his movies.
I see they have all of the Japanese SACD Imports on sale as well. Some suggested titles if you don't have them:
* All N All - Earth Wind & Fire
* Caravanseri - Santana
* Both albums by M. Sasaki & the Jazz All Stars
It gets more play than KOB in my crib. They seemd to have resolved a low level rumble issue that was on at least the MoFi release on the the end of the title song. Last 55 seconds.
I am out $220 thanks to you! :)
Tons of Miles Davis SACD's on the way.
Man with a Horn, Someday my Price will Come, Nefertutti, Foreign More, all sound very crisp and clear.
