I experience this if I turn on the player and hit eject before a disc inside spins up. If I let the disc spin up I hear what sounds like a relay click over just before the first seconds of play. I think there is a relay that gets stuck in the wrong position, probably the one that switches between MCH and 2CH. (I have not verified this, however.) Anyway, on first power-up my solution is to simply wait for the relay to click over before switching to another disc.
i found out that hitting any button, not just "eject" can cause the problem. I usually just wait to hear that "relay click" sound before i press any buttons. When i bought my player, almost 2 years ago, it would do it about once a month for the first few months. Eventually the symptom tapered off, I cant remember the last time it has happened. Maybe it is that I now wait for the "relay click" sound before i do anything. If i dont hear that "relay click" sound i know no sound is going to come out of the player. I simply turn the player off and back on, problem solved. The player is excellent otherwise, especially stereo sacd.
