...and what would be a good pair of cheap cans to go with it? The reviews look promising and I was thinking of coupling it with the Audio Technica ATH-AD900X phones.
Long story ...short version, I sold my Fournier HTA-1 and Denon AH-D2000s and really miss having a set of headphones. I'm looking for the closest cheap substitute. Preferably around $200 - $250 for the amp and phones.
I listen mostly to rock and good bass is a must.
Any advice ?
Thanks.
Dean.

Audio Technica ATH M50, NAD Viso, or Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 if you want sealed headphones. Grado 225 or 325 if you want some open-backed headphones that can do rock music well.Buy used and save, of course. For instance, there's a Little Dot 1+ headamp and a pair of Grado SR-325Is in the AA Trader right now, less than $300 buys you both.
There's an American seller on ebay named "biosciencegeek" (no affiliations) who makes portable, battery-powered CMOY headamps. These CMOY amps are designed to mimic the sound of the $350 Grado RA-1 headamp, although biosciencegeek there has several OPAMP options to choose from for customization of sound. About $75 shipped. For any of the easy-to drive headphones listed above the CMOY can provide more than enough power and drive.

Thanks for all the great information, I appreciate it.
I'll let you know what I do, if I pull the trigger.

Little Dot makes a few different versions, this one is for low-impedance headphones.
You might want to also try the NAD VISO HP50's. You can find them on the used market for ~$150. It's sensitive enough that an amp isn't necessary.

With the dual quads and the ram horn exhaust manifolds. That's probably a 283 or a 327 most likely.
