Thanks for the review. Was considering these as well as the Audeze EL8, but reviews seem to dance around the issues. Appreciate the forthrightness of your opinion, as well as TTVJ loaner program info.
From what I gathered, both are good headphones, but as I was looking for a great one, passed on both and ordered a set of HiFiMan 560s on sale at Moon Audio ($200 off). Hopefully, these will be in the 'great' category as I have several 'good' ones already (AKG 701s, Beyer 1350, Senn Amperior, Senn Momentum overears). Also have a set of Shure 535 IEMs looking forward to comparing to the 560s. Been wanting to stop grinding away $$ and settle in for the long haul. Hope the 560s will do the trick.
What other 'phones have you tried?

Currently I own the Alessandro MS-1, Etymotic ER-4S, NAD VISO HP50, Sennheiser HD 600. I actually listen to the HP50's the most since I can use them at the office. I've heard too many others to list. I recently had a chance to try out the HiFiMan HE-1000 driven by a Cavalli Liquid Carbon at a Head-Fi meet. That was one killer pairing. The clarity and quickness was astounding - and the Liquid Carbon gave it just the right amount of warmth for my taste. I'd venture to say that it sounded like properly set up Maggies in a good room. If the 560's come anywhere close to that sort of magic, I think you can probably get off the audiophile treadmill... at least for a while.
Got em Thursday, they're breaking in as we speak.
Was concerned about driving them, but my RSA Predator amp/dac seems to be doing a great job. At work, my NAD all-in-one unit had to be turned WAY up to get good volume though. Might consider a larger, more powerful amp in the future, and a cable upgrade. And yes, the connectors are a real PiTA. Can't believe a product of this caliber is saddled with such a thing.
Initial impressions? Wow. There definitely a lot more meat on the bone as compared to the AKGs. Seem balance top to bottom. Obviously early, but may have gotten what I expected.
Was thinking about the NADs earlier, but got a great deal on the Senn Momentum overears. A nice sounding unit, esp for over hslf off.
