Sony UK's website describes the headphones as balanced and supplied with 2 cables, one for balanced operation, one for single ended. However the only connector specified is " Gold mini".
So these premium cans cannot connect to my headphone amp with its standard 1/2" output socket nor to its XLR balanced outputs. In fact I have never seen an amp offering balanced operation except via XLRs.
So, as far as I can figure out, these otherwise highly desirable headphones may only be used with my (Sony) portable devices, none of which support hi-rez (Sony's raison d'etre for the product).
A pity as I tend to like Sony cans but these don't make sense as a practical product - except perhaps by using adaptors which, in my experience, always have a negative effect on the sound.

Thanks. Good news on the jack plug adaptor but I still don't get how the cabling works for balanced outputs other than what may be a special arrangement for a particulat Sony product.
The reviewer in the video doesn't encourage me to purchase them after his comments on the sound.
It's pretty easy to use a mini plug to 1/4" plug adapter if you have a full-sized headphone amp. As far as balanced op goes, I'd imagine that Sony does offer a balanced XLR cable, at least as an option.
The stock cable comes with a connector with a standard headphone plug.
