Not with a Headphone amp built in, not the other way 'round.

"Shhhhh!"...They'll start talking about it again. You can get a very good solid state Headphone amplifier for this price or a(possibly)'fair' DAC, which they bundled a HP amp to. I think of these"components" as"Integrated Headphone Amps." (They are sold as Headphone Amps,so your argument is with the manufacturers* for the inaccurate labeling)
I tend to prefer to buy items produced by Companies whose businesses are geared toward specific types of Components (& that's why I'm "broke"; happy with my Audio System, but definitely "broke")
(*I don't know what Marantz is calling this)

An older Marantz DV9600, which I use as my main Silver Disc Spinner and a newer but now also obsolete Network Player NA7004. Both have so-called HDAM output circuitry involved somehow in the headphone output and both act as great headphone amps for my HD600.
In fact, for a time I was using the NA7004 as my office system USB DAC/Headphone Amp and found it to be outstanding driving the HD600.
Now that I have figured out a way to get Ethernet up to my main system, I use the NA7004 mostly for its Air Play capability.
If indeed the HD-DAC1 has an even BETTER headphone output than my two Marantz units (not sure it's not the same circuit) then it is surely worth a look.
Well curiousity(which is normally my downfall)got the better of me so I read what Marantz had to say about this "item" & I had a little chuckle
In the very first line they talk about this being a 'powerful headphone amp'
due to the HDAM Tech. it used in a current series is now being applied to this component. In effect it is a "Headphone Amp" they've decided to call
"HD-DAC1" because you will sell at least 3 or 4x as many units this way.
Just about everyone is looking for DACs;You will reduce the amt of people who will even look at this if you call it a "HP Amplifier"
